We Are Durban – Heritage Day Potjie Competition

We Are Durban, a Social Upliftment Non-Profit, would like to invite you to participate in our annual Potjie Competition on Heritage Day, 24 September, hosted in partnership with Buyisithemba GD Community Development Non-Profit Organisation in KwaMashu, Durban.

Enter your team of 2 – 6 people and cook your favourite potjie recipe, with fantastic prizes up for grabs for the winning team. Once the winning team is chosen, we will share the delicious fruits of our labour with the 250 people fed every day by the Buyisithemba feeding scheme. The competition promises to be an incredible opportunity to get a taste of township life, and build relationships with the community!

Potjies will be judged on taste and presentation, and teams catering to the theme of Heritage Day will get extra points. Teams will need to bring everything needed to cook their potjie – pot, ingredients, charcoal, as well as gazebos, chairs, etc. Teams will have 3 hours to cook the potjie before judging, and will need to cater to feed themselves, as well as an additional 10 people from the community.
